生成系AIの登場によって世界規模の社会変革もたらされ、AI技術の急速な進展に対して、学術的にも社会的にも、どう向き合い受容していくかが喫緊の課題となっています。東北大学には、自然言語処理を中心とした国内最大級のAI研究グループが部局横断的に形成されており、直面する課題を解決へと導く高信頼AIなどの世界的業績を産み出し続けています。 本センターを設置し、これらの研究者の研究力を結集することで、生成系AIを含む高度なAIの理論や原理の解明、信頼できるAIの実現に取り組みます。同時に、高度AIの研究成果に基づく各専門領域におけるAI駆動型研究、AIアラインメント／セイフティ研究などを強化・推進します。さらに、これらの役割を担う世界的研究拠点として、世界規模での社会変革に対して発展と統制をバランスさせながらAIと共生する人間中心の社会を実現するための、AIを応用した新たな価値を創造する多様な専門研究の社会実装や人材育成に取り組みます。以上の活動を、「データシナジー創生機構」を構成する各センターの研究教育活動とも連携して行います。これにより、AI分野の若手研究者、企業技術者の育成や起業支援を実施します。

The emergence of generative AI has revolutionized society on a global scale, and the pressing issue is how to confront and accept the rapid progress of AI technology, both academically and socially. Tohoku University has one of the largest cross-departmental AI research groups in Japan, focusing on natural language processing, and continues to produce world-class achievements such as highly reliable AI that leads to solutions to the challenges we face.

By establishing this center and combining the research capabilities of these researchers, we will work to elucidate the theory and principles of advanced AI, including generative AI, and to realize reliable AI. At the same time, we will strengthen and promote AI-driven research and AI alignment/safety research in each specialized area based on the results of advanced AI research. Furthermore, as a world-class research center that plays these roles, we will work on social implementation and human resource development of various specialized research that creates new value by applying AI, in order to realize a human-centered society that coexists with AI while balancing development and control against social changes on a global scale. The above activities will also be conducted in collaboration with the research and educational activities of the centers that make up the Organization for Innovations in Data Synergy.
Through these activities, we will foster young researchers and corporate engineers in the field of AI and support entrepreneurship.
