AI技術の急速な進展、特に生成系AIの発展により、世界規模での社会変革が進行中であり、我々は現在、その対応方法が人類の未来を決定するような困難に直面しています。発展と統制をバランスさせながら人工知能と共有する人間中心の社会を実現するためには、人工知能を応用して新たな価値を創造する多様な専門研究の社会実装や人材育成を密接に連携させて課題解決に取り組む必要があります。
本学には自然言語処理を中心とした人工知能研究の世界トップグループが部局横断的に形成されており、世界的な影響力を持つ研究成果を生み出し続けています。これらのグループを結集・拡大し、生成系AIを含む高度なAIの理論や原理の解明、説明可能なAI(XAI）の開発、各専門領域における人工知能駆動型研究、国内外とのAIアラインメント／セーフティー研究、研究成果の社会実装と人材育成などを強化・推進する役割を担う国際的な研究拠点として、新たに「言語AI研究センター」を設置し、本学CDOの強力なガバナンスのもと「データシナジー創生機構」と有機的に連携していきたいと思います。

With the rapid development of AI technologies, especially generative AI, social transformation is underway on a global scale, and we are currently facing difficulties where the way we respond will determine the future of humanity.
In order to realize a human-centered society shared with artificial intelligence while balancing development and control, it is necessary to solve problems by closely coordinating social implementation and human resource development of diverse specialized research that creates new value through the application of artificial intelligence.
Tohoku University has formed world-leading artificial intelligence research groups centered on natural language processing across departments and continues to produce research results with global impact. We would like to bring together and expand these groups, establish a new “Center for Language AI Research”, and collaborate with them organically under the strong governance of the “Organization for Innovations in Data Synergy TOHOKU University”. The Center for Language AI Research will play the role of strengthening and promoting the elucidation of theories and principles of advanced AI including generative AI, development of explainable AI (XAI), artificial intelligence-driven research in each specialized area, AI alignment/safety research with domestic and international partners, social implementation of research results and human resource development, etc. As an international research We aim to become an international research center.
